This unit is also responsible for the safe removal of all abandoned vehicles in the Township. They also work with construction engineers to design safe traffic flow plans for new construction or remodeling efforts in business and residential areas. In addition, this unit conducts roadway surveys to determine the need for new traffic regulations or signals. The members of this unit have specific training in crash scene diagramming and the collection of forensic evidence, such as tire skid marks, and vehicle damage that can be used to assist in determining what happened in a collision sequence. These types of investigations can involve vehicle on vehicle, vehicle on fixed object or vehicle on pedestrian. The Police Officers assigned to the Traffic Safety Unit are all certified Crash Reconstructionists dedicated to investigating motor vehicle crashes that result in death or serious injury. They also conduct commercial vehicle inspections and enforce truck weight limits. The Traffic Safety Unit in coordination with the Highway Enforcement Team officers, enforce speed zones on major roadways by using ROBIC and ENRADD technologies. The unit also supervises the activities of the Animal Control Warden and the School Crossing Guards. The Unit consists of a Sergeant, two Officers, and one Utility Person. The Lower Merion Township Police Traffic Safety Unit is responsible for the targeted enforcement of traffic regulations designed to facilitate the safe and smooth flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout the Township.
